God’s grace! James chapter 2
We are a church that ‘does’ a lot of things! Yes it can get tiring and yes I’ve noticed a tinge of pride that wants to creep like a fungus into our self identity. What! Pride? This is crazy! I should know more than anyone how God’s grace is the ONLY platform we stand on when we do our deeds of service.
James chapter 2 explains this: James 2:12-14
12 So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. 13 There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.
Yes, I know that chapter two famously goes on and talks about what good is it to have faith without works. (v14-25) but lets not forget that the faith/works argument has not foundation to stand on unless you embrace v.1 – 12 of chapter 2. Including what James calls God’s royal law: “Love your neighbor as yourself”. Pride of any kind, even pride in doing good things is a form of anti-love.
Thank you Jesus for your message and example of God’s grace! I want to live in it. I want everything that I “do” to be a product of it and have it flow freely through me!
